Criteria

• The total amount of bail requested cannot exceed $5,000. We do not work with bail bondspeople, nor do we pay a partial amount if an individual's bail is more than $5,000.

• The individual in jail must be a resident of Orange County, North Carolina.

• If the person in need of bail is a resident of Orange County, we can cover bail in Orange, Caswell, Chatham, Alamance, Person, and Durham Counties. If they need bail to be covered in more than one county, the total amount cannot exceed $5,000.

• The person in need of bail cannot have holds that will prevent their release from jail.

• A phone number to receive court reminder texts is required.

We Consider

• If incarceration will harm an individual's dependents or other family members

• Negative impact of detention on a person's employment.

• The individual does not have multiple recent failures to appear in court

• If the charge is domestic violence related, there are no incidences of violating previously set conditions or protective orders. Reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

Referrals are accepted from the Orange County Public Defender’s Office, Orange County Pre-Trial Release Services Program, Orange County Justice Project volunteers, indigent persons, indigent persons’ counsel, family, and friends.
